A growing caring A.CK Diocese of Kitui boldly proclaiming Jesus Christ and equipping all Gods people to face the challenges of life.
A.C.K Diocese of Kitui is one of the 32 Dioceses forming the Anglican Church of Kenya and it covers sixteen administrative districts. The Diocese covers an area of approximately 29,389 Sq Km including 6,369 Sq Km of the uninhabited Tsavo National Park, with a population of approximately 1.2 Million People. Kitui Town is the headquarters of the Diocese and it is about 180 Km South-East of the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi. All the districts within the Diocese lie in arid and Semi-arid zones of Eastern province and as such face rainfall unreliability. The area suffer from a history of poor and unpredictable rainfall of less than 650 mm (770 mm) per-annum which is not sufficient to meet the crop production requirements and also livestock needs. This has caused gross food shortages as most of the crops planted end up being water stressed due to inadequate rainfall thus causing crop failure throughout the year
The Akamba people who inhabit the diocese are generally hard working with the 80% of labour force engaged in the agricultural activities in form of farm and livestock production. Income is therefore geared to rainfall patterns for the majority of the people. Due to the harsh agriculturally related climatic conditions, there is rural-urban Migration in search of wage employment and small business ventures leaving the aged, women, and children as the main source of agricultural labour in times of favorable rains.
Administratively, the Lord Bishop is the head of the diocese and under him is the vicar general/administrator under the vicar general are the archdeacons heading the eight archdeaconries, the rural deans heading the 19 deaneries, the parish Vicars heading the 67 parishes and lay leaders heading the 160 local churches
